Franco Grasso: "It will be a record winter season"

After a very difficult winter season like last year, here is Franco Grasso's positive opinion for next winter.

The beginning of winter is approaching and according to Franco Grasso, one of the leading experts in revenue management in Italy, the best season ever for mountain hotels is looming. Pre-covid numbers are expected, if not better. "Mountain hotels, apart from some particular and very exclusive destinations, have always been considered on the lowest step of the hospitality podium compared to hotels in cities of art and seaside and lake resorts" explains Franco Grasso. "Well - continues the expert - from this year things will change, and a lot. Partly because the next season will compensate for a disastrous winter 2020, to say the least, and also because the mountain structures have intrinsic characteristics that will make the difference ". What are these characteristics? Franco Grasso: “First of all, the possibility of being able to sell New Year's Eve at unimaginable prices for other hotels, regardless of the period of the season to be considered. Then, let's not forget that having two seasons, the summer one (generally little appreciated) and the winter one, also means having the possibility of hosting the same customer, the same year, in the two seasons. The important thing is to be able to make winter interact commercially for summer and summer for winter, creating important synergies and reducing communication costs. Another advantage is that there is less competition online than on the sea. Furthermore, geographically, many mountain hotels (Alps) are located close to the borders and allow you to have 2 or more nationalities with which to feed demand. To all this, we also add that the mountain customer tends to consume more the internal services of the structure, increasing internal sales (restaurant, bar, wellness, excursions etc.) ". “The rise in temperatures helps both the summer mountain - which offers refreshment - and the winter one, removing it from the excessive rigidity of temperatures (so much for the snow it is always possible to provide in some way). The mountain customer complains less about the possible whims of the weather, as he expects them more than the sea and lake customers ”explains Franco Grasso. According to the expert, sales must be opened immediately with a view to revenue. "This winter the mountains will record record after record. One more reason to also consider making investments in mountain hotels" concludes Franco Grasso.
