Nine months after the fire that destroyed the Monte Scirocco chairlift in Gambarie, local institutions found the solution to revive the tourist air of the Aspromonte park.

On the night between Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November 2020, the Monte Scirocco chairlift in Gambarie was destroyed by a fire. In those days, the Mayor of Santo Stefano in Aspromonte, Francesco Malara, asked the institutions to intervene, so that they could intervene as soon as possible to fix a damage that could have generated problems for the economy of the municipality in view of the winter season.
After nine months something has changed: "in November the inspection together with the technicians, the Councilor Catalfamo and the Mayor Malara, then the consequent engagement with citizens, tour operators, entrepreneurs and the Municipality. A political commitment assumed and maintained. Nine months later we can already think about starting again: 3.5 million euros from the regional government to build a new modern ski lift, which will also ensure an increase in speed and passenger transport capacity ". This is what the Reggio deputy Francesco Cannizzaro writes on social media. Two seasons, winter / summer, already lost and the serious risk of losing others, with related damage to all the Aspromonte industries. With these funds, however, the process for the creation of a new plant can begin to be launched, thus opening up a new glimmer of hope for the Gambarie chairlift.
