It was last Friday held the 29th edition of the Derby de la Meije, the classic mad race event on the slopes of La Meije, in the mountains of La Grave, French Alps. Participants - about 600 - start from the starting gate placed at 3550m on the Dôme de la Lauze, are a necessary step to Col des Ruillans à 3200m altitude before arrival which is located in the lower altitude 2000m, choosing the LINEEA preferred and in the shortest possible time.

Contestants can participate individually or in a group and get off choosing the means they prefer - skiing, snowboarding, telemark, monoski and "special means" categories. You can ski down the path that most excites, choosing from wide slopes, steep gullies, snow, traced or gobbosa and dressed in the most original ways and showy.
A race really unconventional, informal, uncompetitive and a unique spectacle. They take part samples, enthusiasts, amateurs and people freak out. The organizers recommend to make an inspection in the previous days to get an idea of ​​the path, which is quite long: 9km descent.
The race started at 10:30 and the competitors set off in groups of a dozen every minute. The best ones to go down in less than 7 minutes - 3 minutes and 37 recorded the best time - but there are those who take as long as necessary, even putting us more than an hours and a half.

The district
La Grave is a small village in the French Alps that has just over 500 inhabitants, situated at the foot of the glacier of the Meije and the Massif des Écrins. It is one of the best freeride areas in Europe, with a vertical development of 2150m, which attracts fans from all over the world to follow its beautiful off-piste.
The philosophy of Grave is freeriding to 100%, its paths extending on two main valleys for approximately 2000 meters of altitude, through various gradients gender and panoramas, are never beaten and then you will have very moved with humps and carry-overs caused wind and other skiers.
