After 2 cancellations due to the Covid crisis in 2020 and 2021, after the cancellation of the race for meteorological reasons in 2022, the "Derby de la Meije" will not be held in 2023. For the people of Freeride and for the French mountains it will therefore be 5 years without this epic competition, which sets an appointment for 2024.

The official announcement of the cancellation of the 2023 edition of the Derby de la Meije arrived on 11 November 2022:
It is with regret that after a long consultation the members of the association's board of directors have taken the decision to cancel the 2023 edition of the derby de la Meije. There are several reasons for this:
First of all, the safety aspect, essential for the smooth running of the race, took precedence over our decision. In recent years the nature of the terrain has deteriorated, in particular the great access wall to the valleys. Some members of the race safety committee withdrew after the 2022 edition. It therefore becomes necessary to reconstitute this committee.
Another important point is the current economic environment with all costs rising. It was not possible for the organizers to pass this inflation to the participants. Organizing the derby requires a lot of upstream work and involvement in several key positions that are not guaranteed this year.
The members of the association are well aware that such a decision could have economic consequences for the Pays de la Meije region.
This empty year will be an opportunity to restructure the entire organization and reflect on a new racing format for 2024.
