Everything is ready in Camporosso (Tarvisio) to celebrate the arrival of 2023 with the traditional Mount Lussari torchlight procession. An event which, after a two-year break due to Covid-19, will celebrate its "first" 50 editions on January 1, bringing back to the Tarvisio area that festive atmosphere that has always distinguished it.

A tradition that began more than 50 years ago, when a group of friends decided to go down the Di Prampero slope, about 3.5 km long, dressed in traditional clothes carrying a torch in their hand. At the beginning there were 20, today there are 250 loyalists who draw this big snake of torches every year which for 45 minutes offers unique choreographies for villagers and tourists near and far.
A real celebration which, as per tradition, will not be limited only to the day of the torchlight procession but which will also characterize the previous days as explained by Damiano Matiz, President of the US Camporosso, a partnership that has always organized this event, "After a two-year break due to the pandemic, we are ready to celebrate the arrival of the new year by proposing the traditional program of the Monte Lussari torchlight procession. Thanks to the precious contribution of our associates and the numerous volunteers present, we have decided to celebrate the "golden wedding" of the Torchlight procession, proposing two days of approaching the event where activities are planned for the promotion of the territory, the enhancement of traditions and above all the celebration of the event which in half a century of life has gradually grown and which, enriching itself from year to year year, has come to be an important attraction for the entire Friuli Venezia Giulia Region."
The celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Monte Lussari torchlight procession will therefore open on Thursday 29 December with the first of two days dedicated to "Waiting for the...50th torchlight procession". The kiosk will open at 4.00 pm followed at 4.30 by the "Walk with Claudia between traditions and historic buildings", while at 6.00 pm there will be an interesting demonstration of how torches are built which will then be used during the Torchlight Procession of January 1st and subsequently a special recognition will be given to the torchlight workers who took part in the first edition of the Monte Lussari torchlight procession.
Friday 30 December however, an appointment not to be missed at 17.00 when the workshop "Let's create our friend Gnomo" will be held followed at 18.00 by musical entertainment by Miky Martina. Furthermore, on these two days, from 4 to 8 pm at the US Camporosso headquarters, it will also be possible to register for the 50th edition of the Mount Lussari Torchlight Procession, in which a maximum of 250 torchbearers can participate for safety reasons.
Obviously the highlight of the three days of celebrations in Camporosso will be experienced on Sunday 1 January when the 50th edition of the Monte Lussari torchlight procession is scheduled.
A long-awaited party in the town which will characterize the whole day at the beginning of the year and which will transform the small historic center of Camporosso into the ideal place to welcome the new year.
From 11am to 8.30pm via Valcanale will be enlivened by a real Market Exhibition thanks to the numerous stalls offering the public artisanal and gastronomic products, while at 2.00pm space will be given to musical entertainment with Dj Andj j & Spadino Voice.
As evening falls, the eagerly awaited program will come to life. At 16.30 via Valcanale will become the ideal stage for the parade of the Torchlight procession of the Little ones which will end at the parish center giving life to the first bonfire of good luck. A sort of prologue to what will happen shortly thereafter. In fact, at 18.00, now in complete darkness, the eagerly awaited 50th edition of the Monte Lussari torchlight procession will start, the longest in the Julian Alps with its 1,000 meters in altitude, starting from the top of Monte Lussari and arriving in Camporosso after having covered more than 3.5 km of the Di Prampero slope.
Afterwards, the torchlighters will light the great bonfire for good luck and then the day will end with an impressive fireworks display.
The public present will be able to watch the spectacular torchlight procession positioned on the arrival parterre of the Prampero slope, or they will be able to reach the starting area using the lift system which will remain operational until 18.00.
