The press conference to present the fiftieth edition of the "Fiaccolata del Monte Lussari" and the two free descents of Tarvisio valid for the European Cup took place this morning in Udine at the Palazzo della Regione.

In the presence of the Mayor of Tarvisio Renzo Zanette and the President of FISI Friuli Venezia Giulia, Maurizio Dunnhofer, the US Camporosso presented the rich program of initiatives which between the end of December and the first half of January will give prestige to the entire territory of the Tarvisio area.
THE TOrchlight ProcessionAfter a two-year break due to Covid-19, the Monte Lussari torchlight procession is back on Sunday 1 January, an event that will celebrate its fiftieth edition in 2023 and which aims to bring back the festive atmosphere that has always distinguished it.
"After two years of waiting, the Lussari torchlight procession returns and does so in the best possible way by celebrating its golden wedding anniversary - began the press conference Damiano Matiz, President of the US Camporosso - to best celebrate this important anniversary we have prepared a rich program of events in preparation for the torchlight procession which will take place on 29 and 30 December, while 1 January will be the key day as usual with many initiatives aimed at enhancing the area but also involving the little ones before the expected descent of Lussari with torches."
A tradition that began more than 50 years ago, when a group of friends decided to go down the Di Prampero slope, about 3.5 km long, dressed in traditional clothes carrying a torch in their hand. At the beginning there were 20, today there are 250 loyalists who draw this big snake of torches every year which for 45 minutes offers unique choreographies for villagers and tourists near and far.
A real party which, as per tradition, will not be limited only to the torchlight procession but which will characterize the entire day at the beginning of the year and which will transform the small historic center of Camporosso into the ideal place to welcome the new year.
As evening falls, the eagerly awaited program will come to life. At 16.30 via Valcanale will become the ideal stage for the parade of the Torchlight procession of the Little ones which will end at the parish center giving life to the first good luck bonfire. A sort of prologue to what will happen shortly thereafter. In fact, at 18.00, now in complete darkness, the eagerly awaited 50th edition of the Monte Lussari torchlight procession will start, the longest in the Julian Alps with its 1,000 meters in altitude, starting from the top of Monte Lussari and arriving in Camporosso after having covered more than 3.5 km of the Di Prampero slope.
SKI EUROPEAN CUPTen days later the Di Prampero slope, precisely from 10 to 13 January, will once again be a great protagonist, hosting the youngest and most promising downhill skiers in the world engaged in two free descents valid for the European Cup. Indeed, for the second consecutive year, Damiano Matiz and the entire US Camporosso team have managed to bring great skiing back to the only slope in the world where the starting gate is located near a real inhabited village.
On the track that leads from Borgo Lussari down to Camporosso, more than 100 athletes are expected representing around twenty nations for a total of 200 accredited people including technicians, skimen and coaches, who will be busy for four days in Tarvisio, first with two days of timed trials and then with the two downhill races valid for the second series of the most important skiing in the world.
A notable commitment for the historic Tarvisio ski club which, after two years of cadet competitions, would now like to make the big leap, aiming for the World Cup circuit, initially inserting itself among the candidate locations to host the possible recoveries of the fast disciplines and then aiming for the '' calendar entry.
"Last year we deliberately moved the European Cup competitions from Sella Nevea to Lussari to bring great skiing back to the symbolic slope of our Region and we obtained many favorable opinions. Di Prampero lends itself perfectly to hosting high-level competitions and spectacular panorama that can be observed from the starting gate is an authentic visiting card for this downhill - explained Damiano Matiz - this year thanks to the precious contribution of the volunteers of the US Camporosso, the technicians of PromoTurismoFVG and the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, we want to make a further qualitative leap to demonstrate to the International Federation that we are ready to host World Cup competitions.We are aware that the competition is high, but at the same time we are convinced that at the moment there are not many locations available to host downhill trials which, among other things, is the most complex ski discipline to organise. "
For Tarvisio and for Di Prampero it would not be the first time that the maximum ski circuit would stop there. As recalled by Paolo De Chiesa, former blue of the national ski team and now appreciated television commentator for Raisport, speaking with a video greeting during today's press conference, the Lussari slope from 2007 to 2011, in fact hosted 9 races of the Circo Rosa giving great satisfaction to champions of the caliber of Lindsey Vonn, Maria Riesch, Tina Maze, Renate Goetschl and Julia Mancuso.
Organizing a sporting event also means understanding its value for the territory and for its tourist positioning. For this reason, the US Camporosso in collaboration with PromoTurismoFVG has decided to organize the Food For Skiers initiative for the fourth consecutive year, an evening dedicated to the technicians of the main national teams involved in the European Cup competitions which aims to promote the wine heritage -gastronomic of Friuli Venezia Giulia. On the communication front, however, an agreement was signed for the creation of a service within the "Icarus Ultra" television program which is broadcast on the SkySport channels and free-to-air on Cielo, and with Neveitalia.it, the site reference internet in Italy for winter sports and snow.
Also noteworthy is the strategic partnership with Snow Rugby, a historic event that has been animating Di Prampero's arrivals for years, which will take place in the days following the European Cup matches. In fact, the two organizers have created a system, supporting each other in communication and promotion activities.
