On Saturday 8 December the winter season of the ski centers of Friuli Venezia-Giulia will officially open. Weather conditions permitting, the first weekend of December will be possible to ski in particular at the following areas: Piancavallo (Casere area), Sella Nevea (Gilberti chairlift and connection with Slovenia), Zoncolan (school camps, Funifor chairlift and Z4 runway), while in Tarvisio for pedestrians, the Lussari cableway will be open.

As usual, the start of the Friulian mountain ski season will coincide with the Open Day event most awaited by the youngest. The initiative organized in collaboration with the AMSI FVG, the Italian ski instructors association of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in all the mountain areas, from Tarvisio to Sappada, the ski / snowboard schools of the region await the young guests and their families for a day of approaching skiing. All children up to 10 years will benefit from: skipass, equipment rental and a ski instructor's lesson available throughout the day.
Among the main innovations PromoTurismoFVG proposes for the winter of 2018-2019, we note the installation of a new quadriposto chairlift Nuova Tarvisio to replace the previous plant located near the Duca d'Aosta fields, and the complete rebuilding of the snow-making network with the positioning of new cannons in the Casere di Piancavallo area with guaranteed snow production at marginal temperatures, in Forni di Sopra-Sauris the availability of water on the Varmost was increased and additional cannons were installed, while on the Zoncolan the water network.
The convention with the Terme di Arta will also continue this winter, which will guarantee a complete snow experience for tourists and skiers in the mountain areas of Carnia. PromoTurismoFVG and the Terme di Arta have also provided for this year the promotion that combines the adrenaline of skiing and the wellbeing of the spa. Customers of the Terme di Arta will be given a nominal discount voucher which entitles them to purchase a discounted 25% daily skipass.
Also interesting is the collaboration with some structures of the Wine Route and the Flavors of Friuli Venezia-Giulia that will entitle holders of a multi-day skipass to get a 10% discount on the purchase of products or on the price of a meal in one of the restaurants of the region.
Lots of sporting events scheduled in the winter of Friuli. Sella Nevea will host the Paralympic Ski World Championships and especially in March it will be the scene of the Alpine Skiing Cup European finals, an event that Friuli Venezia-Giulia has not organized for 9 years. Piancavallo instead is preparing to welcome the best athletes of the national snowboard including the Olympic champion Michela Moioli who will battle for the Italian title.
Also confirmed the night skiing on Tuesday and Friday on the Di Prampero di Tarvisio track. From January 4th to March 8th, ski enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the track that hosted World Cup races under the spotlights that will remain lit from 8.00pm to 11.00pm.
There are also various sports and educational activities offered by the "Live nature in the Carnic and Julian Alps" program in the various ski resorts of Friuli Venezia Giulia and downstream. Approach to Nordic skiing in Tarvisio, biathlon lessons at Carnia Arena in Forni Avoltri, horse-drawn carriage rides in the Valsaisera woods, horse-riding and pony clubs in Arta Terme and snowshoes along the Ravascletto sbilf path are just some of the events in calendar designed for families. In Tarvisio every week will be proposed workshops for children, while between Sauris and Sappada there will be creative spaces for children and parents where to learn to build a witch, a mask in lego and a little elf of the woods.
In short, a winter full of events not to be missed that will involve all the mountains of Friuli Venezia-Giulia that will officially end on Sunday 31 March 2019, but it is not excluded that the season can be extended only in Sella Nevea until 25 April.
