Sauris, Zahre in the local language, can be reached by going up the narrow Lumiei valley starting from the Municipality of Ampezzo, or along one of the two spectacular roads, the state road 465 that leads to Casera Razzo or the panoramic road that crosses the Pura Pass, both highly recommended in spring and summer for bicycle enthusiasts.
This alpine village, dotted with huts and pastures, is located between 1000 (Sauris di Sotto n.d.r.) and 1400 meters (Sauris di Sopra n.d.r.) altitude. The name of Sauris is inextricably linked to that of its slightly smoked raw ham still expertly produced following the ancient recipe of the Sauran tradition. In addition to ham, in recent years a local brewery has established itself that takes the name of the country and offers a particular hemp beer.
In winter Sauris is the ideal destination for those who love skiing in a peaceful environment. The slopes, exposed to the sun and equipped with programmed snow-making systems, are suitable for families and for those who want to take their first steps on the snow. Between the wellness center, located halfway between Sauris di Sopra and Sauris di Sotto, and Sauris di Sotto, a scenic cross-country track winds through lush woods and characteristic stavoli, leading Nordic ski enthusiasts to the town of Sauris di Sotto. .
A panoramic route about 5km long that alternates flat stretches with challenging climbs suitable for more trained cross-country skiers. An itinerary that can also be followed with snowshoes to allow everyone to enjoy the suggestive views of the woods and snow-capped peaks.

Dolomiti UNESCO, il bilancio di Banca d'Italia: +9% di pernottamenti senza consumare più territorio
Il paper di Banca d'Italia analizza gli effetti sui flussi turistici e sull'ambiente nei 4 anni successivi all'iscrizione delle Dolomiti nella lista dei Patrimoni Mondiali dell'Umanità, avvenuta nel 2009. A fronte di un incremento delle presenze, il numero di strutture turistiche non è cresciuto e quello di posti letto si è ridotto. Ai maggiori flussi turistici non si è associato né un aumento del consumo di suolo né una maggiore produzione di rifiuti, dimostrando il potenziale del riconoscimento UNESCO nel generare benefici economici locali senza compromettere la qualità ambientale, a condizione che siano in atto un efficace coordinamento istituzionale e solide garanzie normative.
