Boots Special - Prototyping

The third part of our special section "Special production of the boots", made in collaboration with Lange. Today we will discover the most intriguing aspect of the ski boot world as a prototype, following step by step  from the conception of the first physical prototype to create the 3D model on a computer simulator.

After analyzing the hull production mechanisms (here) and the internal shoe (here), is the Director of the factory in person, Joseph Garbujo, which leads us to the discovery of the prototype of the boots.   Even in this the secret is manual skills, the quality and attention to detail.

The first part of the operations provides for the creation of the shape of the hull, on which you will go to shape the boot.
The starting point is always the foot, and subsequently analyzed through scanning 3D printing of the internal forms of the liner, around which apply shims.

The hull is created by shaping small pieces of wood with special glue, which can then be filed down and reduced to define the different thicknesses. In fact these thicknesses that create the technical nature and the beauty of each shoe, explains Giuseppe Garbujo.
All components in this step are controlled one by one, to verify that each component fits perfectly and obtain the desired flex for each model.
Finally, the prototype, the technical scannerizzano the prototype, noting every detail and creating a digital model of the prototype, that once you meet the wishes of the designer can be sent to the mold production machines.

In this video we see exactly the two Lange souls. On the one hand we find the traditional, linked to calzaturifico district, working by hand, starting from the directions of the testers and the insights of the individual. On the other we see how technology is crucial in order to obtain the required product from the market, while maintaining the highest quality standards.

In the next episode of our journey in the Lange factory in Montebelluna we will discover one of the most important steps, the Quality Control.
