Less than 48 hours left until the final and unquestionable verdict arrives: will Milan-Cortina win the race to host the 2026 Winter Olympics or will the Swedes of Stockholm-Are?

In Lausanne there are hours of feverish meetings and negotiations because, as always, the choice of the host country of the Olympic Games was decided by convincing the undecided with actions of geo-political equilibrium worthy of a separate chapter in the history of the Olympics. But who will vote?
The members of the IOC are called to vote, which at the moment are 95. The conditional is a must because three of them are suspended or self-suspended; it is the sheikh of Kuwait, Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, the Irish Patrick Hickey and the Namibian Frank Fredericks. Of the 92 remaining IOC members, the two Swedish members (Gunilla Lindberg and Stefan Holm) and the three Italians (Franco Carraro, Ivo Ferriani and Giovanni Malagò) will not enter the vote as representatives of the two countries in the race as well as the IOC president, Thomas Bach will express his vote, as per protocol, only in the event of a tie.
86 potential electorate voters would remain, but information on some defections is beginning to be recorded: Grand Duke Henry of Luxembourg, Slovak Danka Bartekova and crown prince of Bhutan, Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck will not be present. Therefore, there should be 83 voters to choose the site of the 2026 Olympics, one less than 4 years ago in Kuala Lumpur, when Beijing won for 44 votes to 40 on Alma Aty to host the 2022 edition.
As many as 29 members called to express themselves come from European countries with three representatives from France and Spain. Five represent the Nordic block, seven (to which must be added two Russian members) are an expression of the ex-Soviet bloc, four of a hypothetical Alpine corridor with Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria.
Asia will be present with as many as 17 representatives (in addition to the two difficult to place in Russia): three from China, six from the Middle East (with Turkey and Afghanistan) and eight from the heart of the Asian continent.
There will also be 17 members arriving from the American continent: three Canadians, two Americans, four from Central America and eight from South America. Twelve African members and 6 members from Oceania close the electoral body.
42 votes are enough to win, the hunt is open.
