On Monday in Lausanne, on the occasion of the Session of the International Olympic Committee which will assign the Winter Olympic Games of 2026, the Swedish candidacy will not be supported only by the three "ambassadors" who accompanied Stockholm-Are throughout the process: the female skiers Maria Pietilä Holmner and Jessica Lindell Vikarby and boxer Anna Laurell Nash.

A patrol of Olympic champions will come from Sweden to play for the last time against the Italian candidacy of Milan - Cortina. Leading it, ideally, will be Peter Forsberg [pictured], two golds in Ice Hockey, three-time Olympic champion in Speed Skating Tomas Gustafson and, combining winter sports and summer disciplines, swimmer Gunnar Larsson, two titles 47 years ago in Munich 1972, and the Gold Medal in Athens 2004 in the high jump, Stefan Holm, member of the IOC since 2013.
A large representation is expected from the world of female curling with Anette Norberg, skip in the 2006 and 2010 Olympic victories and current Olympic champions Agnes Knochenhauer and Sara McManus. And again Frida Hansdotter and cross-country skier Anna Holmlund.
It is to point out a presence that comes from far away; won a Gold and an Olympic Bronze in the Bob in Calgary 1988 under the insignia of the Soviet Union. Born on the border with Lithuania, Jänis Kipurs, with the fall of the Wall and the cancellation of the Soviet Union, defended the colors of Latvia and was its first standard-bearer at the Winter Olympics. He will be in Lausanne to represent his country which, in the plans of the Swedish candidacy, will host the races of Bob, Sledding and Skeleton in the gut of Sigulda.
In recent days, the political support for the Swedish candidacy has been consolidated, the main sore point underlined by the IOC evaluation committee. Prime Minister Stefan Löfven recalled how "Sweden hosted the Olympics in 1912 and the time has come to do it again. We are an important nation in winter sports"; while Foreign Minister Margot Wallström underlines that the assignment "would contribute to the positive image of Sweden and how important it is also to keep the country united". It does not let itself be intimidated by the favor that would seem to surround the candidacy of Milan-Cortina and recalls as if it was possible, against all odds, to enter the United Nations Security Council thanks to the values of equality, transparency and diversity the same may happen on this occasion.
