Winter sports were also protagonists, among the great blue champions of each discipline awarded this morning in the monumental gym of Palazzo H, inside the University of the Foro Italico in Rome, of the traditional annual CONI ceremony to assign the Gold Collars of sporting merit for the 2022 season.
Yes, because to open the awards ceremony, anticipated by the words of the new minister for sport and youth policies, Andrea Abodi, guest of honor at the event inaugurated by the number 1 of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, and by the president of the CIP, Luca Pancalli was the woman with the most medals in Olympic history. Arianna Fontana has just returned from an encore on the 500 meters of the short track in Beijing 2022 and, receiving the Collare d''Oro together with her husband Anthony Lobello who, as a technician of the Valtellina champion, was in turn awarded with the Palme d''Oro, it was "launched" towards the sixth participation in the Games by President Malagò himself.
“We will do everything to bring her to Milan Cortina, let's talk about the woman with the most medals in the Olympic history of our country”. Arianna, once again, did not go out of balance in this sense given that the problems related to the project to be shared with the FISG have been well known for some time, speaking of her very special 2021/22: "It was a very exciting year and full of adventures, I managed to win the 500m World Cup again, working well to get to the Beijing Olympics without leaving anything to chance. Gold meant a lot, but they were three beautiful medals ”.
It was then the moment of curling, of the magical double gold medal in China for the first time of the national movement thanks to Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner, which entered the homes of the Italians as the true symbol of the Azzurri's successes at the Games of Beijing. While the two Olympic champions were awarded with the Collare d'Oro, the technicians Violetta Caldart and Claudio Pescia were awarded with the Palme d''Oro. While Constantini spoke of "Beijing as a starting point for our discipline, given that the Olympics is one of the few occasions that can give us visibility and the feedback has been enormous, we are happy about this", Mosaner did not hide speaking of the possible encore attempt in Milan Cortina 2026. “Will we still compete together? The post-Olympic year is special and for us it was a sabbatical, I focused on the men's team (like Stefania with Team Almaviva, ed) and we will see for 2026, I honestly don't know what will happen. The coaches will decide how to form the national teams for the 'Olympics at home'.
Giacomo Bertagnolli also took away the satisfaction, together with the guide Andrea Ravelli (and the technical manager of the national team, Davide Gros, who received the Palme d''Oro), to go on stage for the delivery of the Collar after the new Paralympic titles conquered in Beijing last winter: "There is a lot of passion and work behind all this - the words of the champion from Trentino - but let's remember that there is also the courage of each of us to face a disability, in my case not see what I am in front of.
In anticipation of Milan Cortina 2026, I think it will have to be a very helpful event for the entire Italian Paralympic sport. This is the first mission ”.
