The analysis of the IOC Evaluation Commission report on the candidates to host the 2016 Olympics, reserves some surprises on the venues proposed by Milano-Cortina

After the formalization of the invitation to Calgary, Stockholm and Milan-Cortina to deepen their candidacy in view of the final assignment that will take place next June, the IOC has made public the report prepared by the working group led by Vice President Juan Samaranch. For the first time you can read black and white the proposal in terms of venues submitted by CONI for the Italian candidacy and there are surprises.
Milan is confirmed as a cluster of ice disciplines: the Assago Forum is destined to host Figure Skating and Short Track, the new plant, the Palaitalia of Santa Giulia in Rogoredo will be the central field of the Hockey tournament flanked by Palalido as a second venue . Missing the 'Oval for Speed ​​Skating on Long Track and this is the first surprise. The Italian proposal envisages the use of the Baselga di Pinè runway, an open-air facility for which the construction of a roof will be necessary to adapt to the Olympic standards.
Going back to the Val di Fiemme, which increasingly acquires a role as the fourth pole (after Milan, Cortina and Valtellina), the Tesero Fund stadium will not only host, as in the tripartite nomination master plan, the Nordic Combined ski segment with the trampoline of Predazzo for the Salto but, as logic would have liked from the first moment, will be the base for cross country skiing.
No surprise comes from Cortina with the package of activities of the Alpine Skiing, the Eugenio Monti track for gut competitions after adequate reconstruction in the face of which we leave some alternatives open outside the border as Innsbruck and St. Moritz, and curling in the historic Palazzo of the Ice of the 1956 Olympics. But, confirming what has been leaked in recent days, the Freestyle and Men's SuperG should take place in Bormio on the Stelvio slope. And at this point all the Freestyle and Snowboard rehearsals can be reassembled in Livigno.
The CONI is not unbalanced at the Biathlon venue, hiding behind a generic "we are considering the existing alternatives".
Finally, this first proposal includes both the Ceremonies, Opening and Closure, in Milan.
