De Fabiani wants to try us in the skiathlon: "The altitude will make the difference, it will be a tough race"

Sunday the first race of the men's fund at the Beijing Games: the best blue card is told on the eve, at the start there will also be Salvadori and Ventura.

After the women's Skiathlon won by Therese Johaug, it will be the men's turn to open the Olympic dances tomorrow, at 8.00 Italian time. Italy ranks Giandomenico Salvadori, Paolo Ventura and Francesco De Fabiani, with the latter representing the best card for a good placing. A few hours after the start of his third Olympics, the Aosta Valley player made some statements through the FISI press office. “The track is tough in itself, with many climbs and flat sections that are few. To make everything more complicated, however, is the altitude, because we run at 1700 meters; therefore it is a rather special race compared to the World Cup ones, given that the “highest” is Davos where we are at 1500/1600 meters. Another factor that should not be underestimated will be the weather and snow conditions, which are slow and influenced by the wind and cold which are two components, especially in a 30 km long one, which we will have to take into account. It will be a very tough race, very different, especially in terms of pace, and it will be interesting to see how it unfolds. I think there will not be too much delay, especially in the classic, where someone will try to make a difference, I think of Niskanen and Bolshunov. There are many variables, everyone will have to test their strength, but I also believe that it will not be long to wait. The second part in skating will be hard to manage, but my ambitions are to stay close with the leading group until the end and play it to the best of my ability. I will follow who will make the rhythm, I will not impose mine. I will start with the skiathlon, then there will be the sprint in free technique, on another selective track, but since it will be only two days from the 15 km in classic technique, a race at which I am aiming, I will evaluate what to do. Let's see how the recovery after skiathlon will be and at that point I'll see whether or not to compete in the sprint. In this Olympics we need to focus on some objectives, rather than trying to do them all: it will depend a lot on the sensations ”.
