The Olympic cross-country skiing adventure is about to end: tomorrow, Saturday 19 February, at 7.00 Italian time (14.00 local time) the men's 50 km will start, the last race for men at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games.
Race that will be very open as always, with possible twists; it remains to be seen whether the victory will be decided with a sprint finish or with a solitary action. The two main names for gold are, without a shadow of a doubt, Johannes Klaebo (bib n ° 1) and Alexander Bolshunov (2): protagonists of a thriller finale at the last World Championships in Oberstdorf, they will fight for the second individual gold in Beijing 2022, in addition to the one won in the sprint team by the Norwegian and the one in the 4x10 km relay by the Russian.
The first eight bibs were awarded to either Russian or Norwegian athletes, demonstrating that these two nations will in all likelihood be competing for the Olympic title: Ivan Yakumushkin (3), number 4 for the returning Simen Krueger, Artem Maltsev (5), Denis Spitsov (6), Sjur Roethe (7) and Christian Holund (8).
Attention to the French Clement Parisse (14) and Maurice Manificat (15), the last Olympic race of his career for the Swiss veteran Dario Cologna, who will have the bib number 17. Possible surprise the young Swede William Poromaa (22). In total 61 athletes will leave; absent the reigning Olympic champion Iivo Niskanen, author of an extraordinary Olympics, marked by three medals, including gold in the 15 km TC.
There will be only two blues at the start: with No. 28 Giandomenico Salvadori and with 32 Paolo Ventura.
The departure is set for 7.00 Italian time, for a race that will put an end to cross-country skiing in these Chinese Games.
