Ireen Wust, to the sound of Olympic records, wins the Gold medal with a time of 1.53.28. For the Dutchman this is the twelfth Olympic medal, the tenth individual, to enrich a palmares that already read 5 Gold, 5 Silver and a Bronze.
Japanese Miho Takagi (1.53.72) and compatriot Antoinette De Jong (1.54.88) go up on the podium
Francesca Lollobrigida sets the time of 1.55.20 and closes in sixth position at 32 cents from the podium.
