Johaug closes the circle with the individual Olympic gold: "A dream since I was a child"

Undisputed star of recent years, gold in skiathlon is worth double for the Norwegian.

Therese Johaug has today ventured into her umpteenth solo that led her to crown her individual Olympic dream, after having won ten medals of the same metal worldwide. This is "only" the fourth medal at the Games in a career studded with a thousand successes. With today's one, the Norwegian champion has reached the figure of ninety victories in the CdM, World Championships and Olympics, sixth all-time and increasingly legend of cross-country skiing. The value of this medal goes to herself and to Torbjorn Johansson, her great supporter since her World Cup debut. Johansson passed away last week. “He has supported me for the past 15 years, especially during the years I have been suspended here. He was supportive in those difficult years for me. I want to dedicate this medal to him too for what he did for me. As I did for myself ”, Johaug told“ VG ”explaining the motivation of the tears at the finish. But in addition to the late mentor, Johaug feels very satisfied with this milestone reached later than expected: “This gold is what I have been training for for so many years. A dream I've been chasing since I was a child. Now I can say that every time I cross the finish line, I am an Olympic champion ”, continued Johaug thanking all those who were close to her:“ I would not have done it without my supporters. I have given the highest priority to those around me in order to achieve this goal ”. As for the blue colors, Martina Di Centa, daughter and grandson of art, was the best of the blue in a difficult skiathlon competition for the national team. Interviewed by the FISI, she was satisfied with the result, with the final 36th place. “I always struggle a bit in the first few kilometers, then as the distance grows I get better and today it went like this, perhaps more than usual and therefore I am very happy. Dad (Giorgio Di Centa, ed) told me to be calm, to make my opinion that something would come out and indeed it was. For me it was a fantastic experience and it went beyond my expectations. I am proud to have represented Italy in this race. Now the 'individual in classical technique'.
