A historic result for Italy, the birth of a champion like Daniel Grassl and the consecration of a star like Nathan Chen.
The men's figure skating competition gave a thousand emotions and crowned the American phenomenon, at the first Olympic title after the 5th place in PyeongChang at a very young age, but what a result for the 19 year old blue in his first experience at the Games and seventh, with the Italian record ( 278.07 pt with a free program of 187.43) and as the best European of the race, ahead of the Russian Semenenko eighth.
Not only that, Daniel brings Italy back to an Olympic top ten of this race 70 years after Carlo Fassi's sixth place in Oslo 1952.
To triumph, in fact, an impregnable Nathan Chen: already in the lead after the short, the three-time world champion also dominates in the free to close with a score of 332.60 points, with over 22 lengths of margin on the Japanese Yuma Kagiyama, silver at altitude 310.05, and with the Japanese also occupying the third and fourth position, with Shoma Uno (formerly silver in PyeongChang) in bronze with 293.00 and Yuzuru Hanyu fourth (283.21 pt) and to whom the comeback afterwards is not enough the eighth place of the short program to defend his scepter.
Also good the placement of Matteo Rizzo, the second blue in the race who finished 16th.
