They were teammates, side by side at the last edition of the Games in PyeongChang, never friends and only partially rivals, as Mikaela Shiffrin began to broaden her horizon from slalom up to speed only towards the career finale of Lindsey Vonn.
A few days after the start of the Olympics in which Shiffrin will aim for his maximum loot in five circles, after winning gold in slalom in 2014 and in giant in 2018 (adding silver in combined), Vonn talks about his compatriot adding that extra bit of pressure that the star of the US formation, and the most awaited woman of these Games, can already feel. "Mikaela has great skills and I expect her to win a medal in every individual event," the athlete capable of winning 82 World Cup races, 9 more than Shiffrin, told Reuters.
For the bi Olympic champion, the goal already unveiled at the beginning of the season is to try in all the tests, except for the closing team event, but only after the giant (7 February) and slalom, which will be held on 9, just like in PyeongChang (when Mikaela stopped, skipping the fast races and focusing on the combined) it will be decided whether to aim for the super-g on February 11, even if there are few doubts about the presence of the American, and above all the '' unknown descent, with trials starting from 12 to 14, before the queen race on February 15 which will precede the combined by 48 hours, which Shiffrin holds a lot as world champion in charge.
