The PyeongChang Olympic Stadium has just been completed and delivered to the Organizing Committee in Daegwallyeong County, PyeongChang County, South Korea, 80km northeast of Seoul Capital, the last city to host the 1988 Summer Olympics. All right, right? Yes, more or less. Meanwhile, it is as if it were the first official act of the upcoming Olympics. Second, the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium, costing 80 million '' won '', about 100,000 Euro, whose work began in 2014 after the first diggers intervened to 'break' the ground, will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Games as well as, not far away, the delivery of medals to the upcoming XXIII edition of the Winter Olympics and the XII Paralympic Winter Games.
The conclusive structure consists of seven floors, with a total area of ​​58,790 square meters and a capacity of 35,000 viewers; is based in Pyeongchang Olympic Plaza. Seventy-two are the meters of diameter, with pentagonal design to symbolize the other economy, environment, arts and peace. Next to the stadium, the Pavilion of Culture and the Olympic Medal Plaza are just as temporary structures. The two-storey pavilion for culture, information and communication (ICT) will also host exhibitions and exhibitions on the first floor, with works by Nam June Paik and other contemporary artists such as Lee Jung Seob and Park Su-geun. The one-square-meter square medal of 1,267 square meters will be used as a venue for medal assignment.
In fact, not all has yet been completed: "The Opening and Closing Ceremony Building is ready," says Chairman of the PyeongChang 2018, Lee Hee-Beom, but we will have to continue to work on stage and other structures over time which still remains ours. " After the Olympic Games, the 35,000 stadium seats and permanent buildings will all be demolished and used as a venue for exhibitions, artifacts and sports.
Indeed, this stage should not have existed either because the design of the candidature had originated since the beginning of the Ceremonies at the Salto plant in Alpine complex, as has happened many other times in the past, for example (but not only) at Lillehammer 1994, with the start and end of the event held in the legendary Lysgårdsbakken. However, right in July 2012, the organizing committee announced the decision to build a temporary arena that would be dismantled, as is happening (or has already happened) for many Rio 2016 Games, tennis stadiums included, in the Barra Olympic Park. It is also written in the new Olympic Agenda 2020, with the introduction of temporary installations abolishing so-called cathedrals in the desert.
Of course, the key point was also another: it is true that the official opening ceremony is scheduled for 9 February 2018, but the day before, at 9.30 pm local time, wind and weather permitting, with official closing one hour and 5 '' later, will qualify for the special male jumping on the normal hill, without counting the jumps of training, at the Alpensia Center. In addition, a real popular lift against the move has even prevented the idea of ​​a stadium far away many kilometers from the venues, perhaps in Seoul, but can be reached with a super fast railway line to build. No way. PyeongChang, which actually does not exist as a city, but is a county (as in America), has yielded. It's paid.
