Extreme ski legend Davo Karnicar dies in an accident

Between 2000 and 2006 he was the first man to carry out the skiing descent of all seven Seven Summits.

Davo Karnicar, a Slovenian extreme mountaineer and skier, died in recent days in the woods of Jezersko where, involved in the felling of some trees, he was hit by a log. After being an athlete of the Yugoslav national alpine skiing team from 1975 to 1982, he began to devote himself first to alpinism and then to extreme skiing when in 1996 he descended from the top of the Annapurna. Having risen to the glory of extreme skiing in 2000 when it was the first ever to take Everest in 4 and a half hours with the help of oxygen, Karnicar was the first to go down Seven Seven in the next six years, seven highest peaks of all continents: Kilimanjaro in 2001, Elbrus in 2002, Aconcagua and Mount Kosciuszko in 2003, Mount Denali in 2004 and the Antarctic massif Vinson in 2006. In those same years he opened the first ski school for children in Nepal in Khumbu.
