Despite the pandemic and the restrictions that did not allow the start of the winter season last year, the authorities have worked on the issue of safety in winter sports.

On April 3, 2021, the "Legislative Decree of February 28, 2021, no. 40" came into force, which dictates some innovations including the obligation to wear a helmet up to the age of 18, instead of up to 14.
In particular, Article 17 paragraph 1 states:
When practicing alpine skiing and snowboarding, telemarking, sledding and sledding, people under the age of eighteen are required to wear a protective helmet that complies with the characteristics referred to in paragraph 3.
The text of the Decree continues with paragraph 2:
The person responsible for the violation of the provisions referred to in paragraph 1 is subject to the administrative sanction of the payment of a sum from 100 euros to 150 euros.
It is also important that the helmet complies with the safety parameters and is CE marked.
Paragraph 3, 4, 5 and 6 of Article 17 reads:
3. Within three months from the date of entry into force of this
decree, the Minister of Health, in consultation with the Minister of
infrastructures and transport, after consulting the competent body of
CONI, establishes the characteristics with its own provision
protective helmet techniques referred to in paragraph 1, and determines the
homologation procedures, the verification of the conformity of the
production and appropriate controls.
4. Anyone who imports or produces helmets for marketing
protective devices of a type not conforming to the characteristics indicated in
the decree referred to in paragraph 3 is subject to an administrative sanction
the payment of a sum from 5,000 euros to 100,000 euros.
5. Anyone who markets protective helmets of a non-compliant type
the characteristics indicated in the decree referred to in paragraph 3 is
subject to the administrative sanction of the payment of a sum from
500 euros to 5,000 euros.
6. Protective helmets that do not comply with the prescribed characteristics
by the decree referred to in paragraph 3 are subject to seizure by part
of the administrative authority.
