A square named after Marco Simoncelli, the motorcyclist who died two years ago at the Sepang circuit during the second round of his last Grand Prix. This was an initiative promoted by Motoclub Motorcyclists Aquilani whereby June 22 it was possible to pay homage to the sample Sic Fonte Cerreto dedicating to the square of the Gran Sasso mountain railway that connects the village with the Campo Imperatore and from which a road curves often frequented by motorcyclists.

Attending the ceremony were the parents of Sic, the mayor of L'Aquila, Massimo Cialente, the President of the Italian Motorcycle Federation Paolo Sesti, riders Mattia Pasini, Lorenzo Baldassari and Corrado Tuzii.
"An extraordinary and unprecedented gesture that makes us proud and that will make our son eternally present and alive in the history of our country. A heartfelt thanks to the administration, the whole city, to Motoclub Aquila and all those who have worked to ensure that the initiative would become real, and moreover, in such a short time "expressed emotion with the father of Marco Simoncelli.
During the ceremony, was also discovered a plaque dedicated to Simoncelli and was inaugurated a monumental stele dedicated to all bikers disappeared in the streets.
