Civetta Ski: Alleghe, Selva di Cadore, Palafavera, Zoldo

The ski area has 72 km of slopes, ranging approximately from Alleghe at 1,000 metres to Cima Fertazza and Col dei Baldi at 2,100 metres, served by 23 lifts. The altitude is not particularly high compared with other Dolomite areas, but Civetta has traditionally been a very snowy region and 98% of the slopes are covered by artificial snowmaking. Ski Civetta is part of Dolomiti Superski, although it is not directly linked to the other ski areas in the network.

From Alleghe, set on the shores of the lake of the same name at the foot of Civetta’s north face, a gondola takes skiers to Piani di Pezzè and from there towards Col dei Baldi, the main hub of the ski area. The sector offers wide, panoramic slopes, mainly blue and red, as well as the long descent to the village: by linking Fernazza, Lavadoi and Ru de Porta, skiers cover around 7 km and 1,100 metres of vertical drop. Piani di Pezzè also has ski schools, children’s areas and a snowpark.

The Selva di Cadore and Val Fiorentina sector, accessible from Pescul, stretches around Monte Fertazza. It is a sunny and highly panoramic area, dominated by Pelmo, Civetta and Marmolada, with attractive red runs through the forest and easier trails also suitable for families. The descents towards Pescul are long and enjoyable, while the ski-school areas at Santa Fosca are a good starting point for children and beginners.

Val di Zoldo has the most sporting character in the ski area. From Pecol, the 12-seater gondola rises to Pian del Crep, from where technical and enjoyable runs start, including the black Foppe and the red Cristelin. Night skiing is also available on around 5 km of floodlit trails, one of Ski Civetta’s most distinctive experiences. The nearby Palafavera sector, on the other hand, offers gentler slopes, ski-school areas and family-friendly runs, while playing a key role in the ski connection between Zoldo and Alleghe.

The main lifts are modern and ensure a good distribution of skiers: Alleghe and Pecol’s gondolas are complemented by several high-capacity chairlifts. A few older lifts remain, especially on the secondary links, but overall travel between the different areas is straightforward, making it possible to complete a genuine tour of the ski area over the course of a day.

The variety of slopes makes Civetta suitable for skiers of every level. Beginners and families will find numerous ski-school areas and blue runs, while most of the skiable terrain consists of wide, smooth red runs, ideal for those who already have good technique. The black runs in Val di Zoldo and some variants towards Alleghe add interest for expert skiers, although Civetta is above all a ski area to be travelled through, exploring its different valleys and slopes.

Ski Civetta is also a stop on the Great War Ski Tour: using the ski-bus connections, it is possible to continue towards Malga Ciapela and Marmolada or towards Passo Giau and the Cortina area. Cross-country skiing circuits are available in Val Fiorentina, at Palafavera and in Val di Zoldo, while snowshoeing, sledging, ice skating and ice climbing complete the winter offering.

In summer, Alleghe, Selva di Cadore and Val di Zoldo become starting points for hikes and mountaineering routes towards Lago Coldai, Monte Civetta and Pelmo. The summer lifts facilitate access to high-altitude trails, mountain huts and mountain-bike and e-bike routes, while Lake Alleghe offers opportunities for fishing, kayaking and other outdoor activities.
