The dream of creating a mega ski resort that connects Cortina d'Ampezzo, Civetta and Arabba could soon become a reality.

This was stated directly by the Governor of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia, who was asked by journalists about the revival of the mountains in the province of Belluno, recently hit by the storm that put the winter season at risk, proposed the Dolomiti No Cars project. A project that has been discussed for years and which provides for the connection of the most important ski areas in the Belluno area: Cortina, Civetta and Arabba.
The initiative also supported by Mario Vascellari, owner of the company that manages the Marmolada ski lifts, envisages an investment of approximately € 64 million, half of which will be allocated from public resources, and half would be borne by the private sector.
The new mega district that would compete with the Sellaronda, would take advantage of all the existing ski lifts of the three locations that are part of the Dolomiti Superski but would obviously also include the construction of new slopes and new connections to allow skiers to move from one side to the other. other without the help of the cars.
A project that is not easy to carry on, given that in addition to the economic obstacles, environmental and naturalistic problems could arise (the three locations are included in Natura 2000 and UNESCO sites) that have triggered the protests of some detractors such as the mayor of Livinallongo Leondro Grones who sent a letter to vitriol to Governor Zaia:

We will not sacrifice the rare beauty of those places protected by UNESCO for no reason in the world. We will never sacrifice the most precious naturalistic area of the Dolomites protected by Rete Natura 2000, so fragile from the hydrogeological point of view that it is largely classified as P3 and P4. We will never sacrifice the millenarian archaeological area of Castello, home of the Andraz Museum, which is a flagship of the Dolomites. That link is not even provided for in the Regional Snow Plan. The City Council of Livinallongo has already pronounced unanimously against that project years ago. Sorry, President, you have not even received a phone call from you. "
