Livigno Nine Knights 2012: Kai Mahler is the king of the castle

Top Freestyler met in Livigno for this end of the season. Saturday, April 14th, some of the world's leading Freerider took part at the Suzuki Nine Knights; they battled to the sound of tricks, backflip, double cork on a majestic castle-like structure, prepared by the shaper of the Mottolino Fun Mountain. The champion of last season, the Italian Markus Eder, left the throne to sixteen Swiss Kai Mahler, who has conquered the jury with the most spectacular developments. On the podium the American Gus Kenworthy and the Swiss team Nordica, Jonas Hunziker.

After last month's successful outing for the girls at the Nine Queens, it was time for the guys to descend on Italy's Livigno resort for this year's Nine Knights competition, which includes a big air contest, as well as a film and photo shoot.

SCULPTURE - The legendary Mottolino Fun Mountain, the ski area that has become a reference for Livigno skiing young, two teams, the snow-cats and the shapers of the famous crew and Mottolino Schneestern, using chainsaws, shovels, snow cats, rakes, have sculpted the Castle, a structure of 30x30 meters, which goes up to 20 meters in height. It is the scene of daring flights of freeskiers, in a crescendo of bitter and acrobatics. Athletes have reached speeds of up to 100 km per hour, making jumps of up to 40 meters in length, which led them to hover at 12 feet above the ground. With Suzuki Nine Knights skiing takes on a new suggestion spectacular.

THE PLAYERS - The list of the present in Livigno freeskiers for this event is truly one of the great occasions: Tom Wallisch, who won the Dew Cup, gold medal at the X Games in Aspen and a silver medal at the X Games in Europe, Gus Kenworthy, current AFP World Tour leader and overall winner of the Jon Olsson Invitational and be the first skier to close 1,440 triple switch, Jossi Wells, successful rider of numerous medals at the X Games, Russ Henshaw and the two local champions, David and Raphael pillows.
