Artesina, Piedmont resort that gives a nod to the Freeride

Artesina, part of the Piedmont "Mondolé ski" with 120 km of slopes and 24 ski lifts, is a real treat for lovers of Freeride, with its various combinations of slopes and slopes covered each year by heavy snowfall.

Artesina, in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont, part of the ski area "Mondolè ski", the second largest skiable domain in the Piedmont.  The name derives from the summit area's most important, the Mount Mondolè, from the top to 2382m, unique feature, you can see the sea of the Ligurian Gulf and especially the amphitheater of Genoa.
The 2012-2013 season the ski area Mondolè-ski introduces himself at the beginning of the season with the snowmaking system greatly strengthened, were added over 80 new guns only in the town of Prato Nevoso.

The area is a real treat for lovers of the Freeride, as it offers many combinations of slopes and slopes covered every year by heavy snowfall. One example is the path that runs from the top of Cima Durand down to 1300 meters in altitude up to Rastello from where the two chairlifts latest. Missed are also the various slopes that stretch from the Pian della Turra towards the bottom of the valley. Fir and chestnut trees, old farmsteads and rural views across the plains and the north-western Alps form the backdrop to almost 1000 m of altitude in powder.

Artesina hosted last year, the first edition of the Freeride Fest, contest-style "Big Mountain" with individual start and descent of 500m in powder evaluated by a special jury, and is about to repeat itself in January 2013. The area is known for its abundant snowfalls, thanks to the 'onset of low pressure on the Ligurian Gulf, making it one of the snowiest of' Alps. For example, the 2010/2011 season saw the resort to open its doors on November 26 and close on May 1.
This year's festival opened with the Open season is set for 8 December to Prato Nevoso, with concerts, torchlight procession and night skiing free until 24.

The place name derives from "artusin" - the name of the plant Piedmont rhododendron which cover the slopes of the mountains that surround the village during the flowering period - and its origins are Occitan culture of which there are So far, the language and traditions.
