Saturday, June 22 will open the Rifugio Capanna Margherita, at 4,554 meters above sea level, built on top of Gnifetti, the highest peak in the Sesia Valley, built in 1893 and renovated in 1980. The refuge was dedicated to Queen Margherita, who at the time of the construction sovereign of Italy. On 14 July 1889, the Assembly of Delegates of the Cai approved the project to build a hut over 4500 meters for "allow climbers and scientists greater ease their intent in a shelter high. In 1903 in London the International Council of Academies recognized the Margherita hut establishment of "scientific usefulness and deserving of support." In 1976, the old shelter showed signs of wear. In 1977 the Section of Varallo, on behalf of the Headquarters, began work for the new hut, which was inaugurated on 30th August 1980.
