Artavaggio, refugees and operators in favor of the construction of the new chairlift

The inhabitants, the refugees and the operators of Artavaggio respond with a statement to the "no" of the environmentalists on the construction of new ski lifts.

The "Territorial Pact for the Integrated Development of the mountain areas and the ski and hiking areas of Piani di Bobbio-Valtorta and Piani di Artavaggio", for which the Lombardy Region is making 11 million euros available, includes various interventions, including a new chairlift at Piani di Artavaggio serving the school camp and replacing the currently present treadmills. The news last month sparked controversy among environmentalists. Today the inhabitants, refugees and operators of Artavaggio respond with a statement: “After having read many complaints in various local newspapers, with the official press release of our first citizens we have finally received clarity on the development projects for the Artavaggio Plans. We thank the Lombardy Region who joined the Territorial Pact and confirmed its willingness to invest in our territory, carrying out the work started by the Moggio Administration in 2006 with the tiring reopening of the cable car, the removal of the ski lifts and, with the '' help from the Administrations of Cassina and Cremeno, the installation of 4 treadmills. These are works and interventions that we have hoped for and that we have been waiting for for over 20 years. Unfortunately, let's not forget the period in which the cable car was closed and the consequent economic difficulties (and not only) that we had to face; from 2001, in fact, when the company that owns the plants decided to close, to 2006, it was not at all easy '' to keep the shack up ''. And sometimes unfortunately, despite the reopening of the cable car and the passion that accompanies us every day, this fear and uncertainty about tomorrow returns: how can Artavaggio flourish without skiing? And without the programmed snow? Clearly Moggio also suffered from this situation and over the years several local businesses have decided to close ". The statement goes on to say “With the arrival of the funding provided for by the Territorial Pact, it is finally possible to look forward with more confidence, focusing on the enhancement of the Valsassina area and on improving the quality of the services offered for tourism. The new ski lift would make it possible to enhance the Artavaggio Plans, offering a contextualized and non-invasive proposal, as it was designed for an area that does not interfere with typical activities, such as snowshoeing or ski mountaineering routes. . It is certainly in our interest - continue inhabitants, refugees and operators - that everything is carried out in full respect of nature and above all of the mountains, a topic that has been much discussed in this last period and that we live in first person every day, trying to do the best possible for the protection of the environment. Our work does not stop at the simple refreshment of the tourist; in fact, we are constantly concerned with making trails accessible, arranging slopes and maintaining the woods with care. We also strongly believe in the potential of Valsassina, which for several generations has represented our home and our work and we hope that this economic opportunity offered by the Region, with the collaboration of the Mountain Community and the Province, can help us make our territory even more ' 'attractive' in all seasons of the year. Finally, it is an intervention that would allow us to find new job opportunities also for our young people, who are increasingly moving away from Valsassina in search of a safer future. We really hope to be able to take this '' train ''; many have passed over the years but unfortunately they only stopped on other mountains ”.
