The summit cross dominates the mountains again to Solda

At 3,905 meters Ortler in South Tyrol has returned to soar the summit cross, after the collapse of last summer, which was provovato by a wave of exceptionally hot. The new Iron Cross was manufactured by some pupils of vocational schools Schlandersburg and Bressanone. The new cross was raised on the highest peak in South Tyrol through the use of a helicopter.

The new cross of steel, weighing nearly 400 pounds, was laid on a base built in the days previous articles to the installation by local climbers. Seven of mountain guides and mountain rescue have collaborated to return to the summit of one of the symbols for rock climbers and for the community of Solda. The hot summer of last year and in particular the end of August 2012, where for several days at altitude has exceeded the threshold of 20 degrees, had made the move permanent ice Ortler and did give that held in Rocky Mount foot of the old monument. Under these conditions the rock on top of the Ortler had yielded pulling with it also the summit cross that had been irretrievably damaged along the wall below. During last summer at certain points in the melting of the ice was up to 30 centimeters. In the lower parts, at lower altitudes broke up on average 3 meters of ice.
