Alpe Teglio

The historic ski area offers 10 km of slopes, divided into approximately 3 km of blue runs and 7 km of red runs. The skiable terrain extends roughly between 1,650 and 2,500 metres in elevation, although the area actually accessible depends on which lifts are open. The slopes are predominantly open, well exposed to the sun and characterised by uninterrupted views over central Valtellina.

The resort is particularly suitable for families and intermediate skiers. The beginners’ area allows children and first-timers to gain confidence on skis, while the red runs offer more interesting gradients and sufficiently varied descents for those who already have good technique. Experienced skiers may enjoy some steeper sections and the natural terrain at higher altitude, but the overall size and limited variety cannot compare with those of Valtellina’s larger ski areas.

For many years, the main lift was the Prato Valentino-Fontanacce two-seater chairlift, accompanied by a ski lift in the upper area and a conveyor belt in the beginners’ area. The chairlift, now outdated, reached the end of its technical life in December 2025: during the 2025/2026 season, the ski area was therefore unable to open its main slopes, and activity remained limited to the area served by the conveyor belt.

The Lombardy Region and the Municipality of Teglio have funded the construction of the new Prato Valentino-Dosso Lau 2000 four-seater chairlift. The fixed-grip lift will rise from 1,698 to 2,008 metres and will largely follow the route of the previous chairlift. Work is scheduled to begin during 2027, with the aim of reopening the ski area for the 2027/2028 season. Until the project is completed, the 10 km of slopes should therefore not be considered available.

The new chairlift will also be available to pedestrians and should allow bicycles to be transported during the summer. The project aims to transform Prato Valentino into a year-round destination, complementing skiing with mountain-bike trails, activities for families and new tourist services.

Even without the lifts, Alpe di Teglio remains an interesting destination for snowshoeing and ski mountaineering. One of the best-known routes is the Dosso Lau loop, approximately 6 km long with nearly 400 metres of elevation gain. In summer, the area offers walks through meadows and forests, panoramic treks, mountain biking and routes towards the alpine pastures and peaks on the Rhaetian side. Its proximity to Teglio also makes it possible to combine outdoor activities with a visit to the historic centre and the gastronomic tradition associated with pizzoccheri.
