In the international ski area you can only ski on the Swiss side, as in Cervinia the lifts are open only for athletes.

In these days when the closure of the ski lifts during the Christmas holidays is at the center of the debate, even the President of the Zermatt-Bergbahnen, Franz Julen, has taken a stand on the matter by giving an interview to Ansa: "I don't understand why do not want to open the plants. it is safer to stay in the mountains than to stay in the cities, frequenting the subway or railway stations: it is a pity that there can be no connection with Cervinia, we expect to have mainly Swiss skiers, but also Europeans and I believe that Italians have a great desire for the mountains and pure air ".
"Even if we expect 25-30 percent fewer passages during the winter for Christmas we will open all the lifts and all the slopes, safely: we want to offer skiers all the opportunities of the past winters, without compromise" adds Franz Julen .
In Switzerland, the ski lifts are already in operation and right on the Plaeatu Rosà glacier there is a long blue fence that divides the entire ski area, i.e. the Cervinia area on one side, where you cannot ski, and of Zermatt on the other, where the slopes are open.
"It hasn't happened yet, but if some skier coming from Switzerland were to cross the net we have to stop them and send them back. Since it will most likely not open to the public at Christmas, we are calculating the costs and benefits to decide together with the Valle d '' Aosta and the economic operators of Cervinia whether to continue hosting the athletes or close everything "explains Matteo Zanetti, President of Cervino spa, also to Ansa.
