Sima: "The Italy of the parallel aims to repeat the two world medals of boardercross"

The three days of training of the Italian national snowboard team on the snows of Tarvisio was an important opportunity to exchange a few words with Enzo Sima, former technician of the alpine ski national team and now affirmed FISI Federal Councilor with responsibility for Snowboarding.

Together with Sima we analyzed the umpteenth extraordinary season of the Italian parallel snowboard team, which on the eve of the Rogla World Championships presents itself with two victories and two podiums in the World Cup, obtained among other things with four different athletes confirming the great competitiveness of the entire staff of the Italian team. But the real seasonal goal of the Snowboard Dream Team is undoubtedly the Slovenian World Championship, an appointment that the Italian team headed by Cesare Pisoni is preparing in great detail along the slopes of the Prisning B slope in Tarvisio, "Tarvisio's choice - explains Sima - as well as logistically favorable compared to Rogla, it is also linked to the characteristics of the track used, very similar to that of the world championships ". Rogla, among other things, is a place traditionally favorable to Italian colors. Not later than a year ago, in fact, on the track that in a few days will award the world medals, Italy took an extraordinary double win in the parallel giant with Edwin Coratti on the top step of the podium, followed in place of honor by captain Roland Fischnaller. Coratti and Fischnaller will be two of the most anticipated protagonists of the upcoming World Championship, even if as previously said Italy can rely on four other spearheads: Aaron March (already winning this season in Bad Gastein in PSL), Daniele Bagozza, Maurizio Bormolini and Mirko Felicetti, while Nadya Ochner will be the only Italian representative in women's competitions. "Our team can aim for the podium with all its athletes - continues Sima - two of which, Fischnaller and March are also fighting for the conquest of both the general world cup and the two specialties (PSL and PGS)." Rogla's, however, will be a different World Championship than usual. The world champion event in fact, should have been held in China, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic it has been totally downsized and fragmented in various ski resorts. The boardercross athletes, for example, competed in early February on the snows of Idre Fjall in Sweden, while the freestyle disciplines will be held from March 5 to 21 in Aspen, Colorado. If in freestyle Italy has little chance of doing well, according to the Federal Councilor, the blue team engaged in Rogla, on the other hand, has great possibilities of replicating the number of medals won by boardercross athletes, "An ambitious and not hidden goal of the snowboard Team is to win a poker of medals in this “world” season after the two silvers already posted on the board with the boardercross by Michela Moioli and by Moioli herself paired with Sommariva in the team test. " The Azzurri will train on the snows of Tarvisio until Saturday 27 February, then they will move to Rogla, where on Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 March they will be engaged in world trials.
