Biathlon: Christiansen wins the Ostersund Pursuit, 7th place for Giacomel

The first Pursuit of the season sees the best career performance of Tommaso Giacomel who closes in seventh position in the test that saw the victory of the Norwegian Christiansen.

Ready, go: Emilien Jacquelin starts with a frenzied pace to reduce the gap from Samuelsson. The operation is concluded at the shooting range where an error by the Swede causes 4 to find themselves in the space of 10 seconds: the French, the Swedish, the Russian Latypov and Christiansen. They are not wrong and find themselves at about forty seconds Weger, Loginov and Kuehn. A mistake for Lukas Hofer who is grouped around the tenth position just under a minute with Giacomel not making a mistake. Jacquelin and Samuelsson confirm that they are the fastest in recent weeks and are making a difference with the others; at the second shooting range the Frenchman made no mistake and kept a fifteen second lead over Latypov and Christiansen, Samuelsson made another mistake and is at 25.4 while from behind Bakken, Kuehn, Krcmar and Claude return to 45 seconds. A mistake for Giacomel who finds himself in thirteenth place at 1.20.7 while Lukas Hofer's penalty laps are three. Jacquelin misses twice at the first standing shooting range, Christiansen once, Samuelsson once and the three find themselves together to lead the race; at 35 seconds Latypov despite the two mistakes and in fifth position at 48 seconds Giacomel after a 5/5 that launches him at the top of the provisional ranking chased by Weger, Krcmar, Seppala, Eder and Guigonnat. The only one not to make a mistake is Christiansen who is confirmed as the most in form of the Norwegians while at 15 seconds Jacquelin and Samuelsson find themselves fighting for second place. Another 5/5 for Giacomel who comes out of the last polygon in fourth position at 45 seconds with three to defend on Seppala and Eder and 6 on Krcmar. On the finish line Christiansen (19/20) imposes himself with 9.8 ahead of Samuelsson (16/20) and 11.0 over Jacquelin (17/20). Krcmar is fourth (19/20) at 51.5 in a sprint over Seppala (19/20), Eder (20/20) and a splendid Giacomel (19/20) seventh at 52.5. Lukas Hofer (16/20) is twentieth at 1.48.2
