Biathlon: World Cup, we return to the two discards in the season

After the pandemic emergency that led the IBU to mitigate the effect of any isolation or quarantines, allowing the four worst results (forfeit included) to be discarded in the World Cup, we are back to normal.

Fortunately, this was a temporary change which, with the improvement of the health situation, is destined to leave room for normality, as reported by the French site biathlonlive.com, which foresees, at the end of the season, the difference between the two worst results in the race to the overall World Cup. Similarly, there will no longer be any difference in the specialty rankings. Regardless of the fact that clearly the competition strategies would have been different in the presence of different rules, it can be observed that last season the connected gap in the specialty rankings heavily penalized the German Franziska Preuss who finished in second position in the ranking of the Italian Cup. World of Mass Start 3 points behind the winner Ingrid Tandrevold having to discard the 32 points of a ninth place (the worst result in the German specialty) while the Norwegian gave up only 9 points. Similarly Dorothea Wierer got her hands on the Individual Cup with a first and fourth place tied with the Austrian Hauser; the third result, a ninth place, would have allowed the solitary conquest of the crystal ball.
