Biathlon: Johannes Boe dominates the Kontiolahti Sprint, Hofer eleventh

After being unexpectedly defeated yesterday by compatriot Sturla Laegreid, last season's ruler quickly returned to his rightful place.

Johannes Thingnes Boe staged the perfect race in the Sprint which closed the first weekend in Karelia: 10/10 shooting and best time on skis where he gave 20 seconds to his brother Tariej and compatriot Dale. In this competition format, the holder of the crystal ball becomes unplayable. The closest to Boe is, despite an error in the first polygon, the Swedish Sebastian Samuelsson, first of the non-Norwegians on skis, who finishes in second place at 44.1 from the winner and precedes his compatriot Ponsiluoma (1-0) by 4 seconds. An arduous third lap is not enough for Vetle Sjastaad Christiansen (1-0) to grab the podium that eludes him for 4 seconds; an excellent Jakov Fak (0-0) who limits the damage on the course is fifth at 53.1. The French standard bearers lose a great opportunity to get on the podium: Quentin Fillon Mailet (0-0) collapses in the last lap and has to settle for sixth place at 1.01.3 while Emilien Jacquelin (0-2) enters the polygon standing only 11 seconds from Boe but spoils everything with two errors that relegate him to eighth place at 1.05.1. The German Arnd Peiffer (0-1) joins them at 1.03.1. Erik Lesser (0 + 1) is ninth at 1.01.9 while a perfect Moravec is tenth at 1.12.6 and takes away from a good Lukas Hofer (0 + 1) by only two tenths a position in the top ten.
