Biathlon: the IBU rehabilitates the Kazakhs suspended ten months ago for anti-doping violations

In an official statement the International Biathlon Federation announces that it has closed the case against the nine Kazakhstan athletes suspended in November.

Reference is made to the suspension of Galina VISHNEVSKAYA, Alina RAIKOVA, Darya KLIMINA-USSANOVA, Olga POLTORANINA, Yan SAVITSKY, Maxim BRAUN, Anna KISTANOVA, Anton PANTOV and Vassiliy POTKORYTOV; at the time the IBU referred to the results of the investigations of the Austrian and Italian authorities following the searches carried out in Hochfilzen during the 2017 World Championships. On that occasion, after witnesses had declared in January they had found in a petrol station a box containing syringes and vials, the Austrian police, broke into the hotel that housed the Kazakh team at dawn on February 5, seizing medical equipment, cell phones and drugs. Today, the Federation's Anti-Doping Hearing Panel informs that it has not been able to gather sufficient evidence to demonstrate the use of prohibited methods. For this reason, the suspension provision is canceled after the TAS of Lausanne had already expressed last February in the case of Galina Vishneskaya, reaching the same conclusions.
