Biathlon: the IBU suspends for doping all the Kazakhs who took part in Hochfilzen 2017

Today comes an official statement of the International Biathlon Federation announcing the temporary suspension of nine Kazakh biathletes.

It is Galina VISHNEVSKAYA, Alina RAIKOVA, Darya KLIMINA-USSANOVA, Olga POLTORANINA, Yan SAVITSKY, Maxim BRAUN, Anna KISTANOVA, Anton PANTOV and Vassiliy POTKORYTOV. The suspension for violation of the anti-doping regulation refers to article 7.9 which deals with all cases that do not fall within the established positives, anomalies in the anti-doping passport, and the violation of the whereabouts. The press release clarifies that the suspension must be traced back to the findings of investigations by the Austrian and Italian authorities. By combining the dots between the list of biathletes involved and the Austrian authorities, the most likely hypothesis is that the origin is the searches that took place in Hochfilzen during the World Championships in 2017. On that occasion, after that in January some Witnesses said they had found a box containing syringes and vials in a petrol station, and the Austrian police raided the hotel which was home to the Kazakh team at dawn on February 5, seizing medical equipment, cell phones and drugs.
