There is only one week left to go to the 2020/21 season of the World Cup which will sanction who will climb after Dorothea Wierer on the top step of the women's ranking.

The IBU, which last year almost miraculously completed the season with the regular running of the World Championships in Anterselva and the cancellation of the final in Oslo Holmenkollen in full explosion of the first COVID 19 emergency, has worked all summer to offer a calendar that guarantees an adequate number of competitions while having to sacrifice some transfers and some traditional stage venues such as the French Le Grand Bornand and Ostersund.
In this last part of 2020, the first segment of the season, four stages are confirmed, although this statement has an absolutely relative value linked to the evolution of the health situation.
It starts on Saturday 28 November with the opening of the season in Kontiolahti where an Individual will be held followed, on Sunday, by a Sprint.
The group of athletes and all the staff will remain in Finland for the second stage, again in Kontiolahti, from 3 to 6 December; on the menu there is a Sprint on Thursday, Male Pursuit and Female Relay on Saturday to conclude with Male Pursuit and Female Pursuit on Sunday.
The World Cup caravan will then move to Austria for the Hochfilzen stage, scheduled from 11 to 13 December with a program that is practically a photocopy of the previous stage: Sprint on Friday. Pursuit and Relay (to exchange) on Saturdays and Sundays.
The last stage of 2020 will also take place in Hochfilzen, from 17 to 20 December, which includes Sprint, Pursuit and the first Mass Start of the season.
After the traditional Christmas break, biathletes and biathletes will meet in Oberhof for the first two stages of 2021. It resumes on 7 January with the women's Sprint, followed the next day by the men's, followed on Saturday 9 by the Pursuit trials and on Sunday 10 by the Relay. Mixed and Single Mixed.
Two days of rest on German soil and then restart, again in Oberhof, with Sprint, Relay and Mass Start.
As per tradition, Anterselva hosts the last appointment before the World Championships. On the circuit that hosted the world championship last year, the Biathlon circus will be busy from 21 to 24 January. It starts with the Individual and followed by Mass Start and Relay with a cross program.
The usual 15-day break precede the World Championships, scheduled from 10 to 21 February in the Slovenian town of Pokljuka.
The program of the last segment of the World Cup races still remains to be confirmed, which IBU has undertaken to specify by November 30th. The original program would include a transfer to Beijing as a test in view of the 2022 Olympics for a highly risky stage. The Nove Mesto appointment at the beginning of March closes with Holmenkollen in Oslo. But more precise news will surely arrive on the post-World Cup appointments in the coming days.
