In the first men's race of the European Championships the Norwegians escaped the victory, placing three biathletes in the top five positions. The best Italian is 22-year-old Patrick Braunhofer.

Andrejs Rastorgujevs (1-0-0-0) is the new European champion of the Individual; the Latvian, thanks to the best time on skis, inflicts abysmal gaps on his opponents and wins with 1.27.5 ahead of the Norwegian Erlend Bjoentegaard (0-2-0-0) and 1.41.4 over the twenty-three-year-old Endre Stroemsheim (0-0- 1-1).
The only 20/20 of the day for the Russian Said Karimulla Khalili (0-0-0-0) to reach the podium is not enough; stops in fourth place at 1.59.7 from Rastorgujevs. Another Norwegian, the third, in fifth position: this is the young Sivert Guttorm Bakken (0-1-0-1) who precedes the Ukrainian Pryma (1-2-0-0) by 7 seconds.
The first of the Azzurri is Patrick Braunhofer (2-0-0-0), twenty-ninth at 4.37.8; Daniele Cappellari (1-0-0-1) is thirty-third at 5.04.4 and precedes his teammate Giuseppe Montello by 7 tenths (2-0-0-2) and by 6 seconds Saverio Zini (0-0-1- 3).
