European Biathlon: Latvian Rastorgujevs wins the Individual

In the first men's race of the European Championships the Norwegians escaped the victory, placing three biathletes in the top five positions. The best Italian is 22-year-old Patrick Braunhofer.

Andrejs Rastorgujevs (1-0-0-0) is the new European champion of the Individual; the Latvian, thanks to the best time on skis, inflicts abysmal gaps on his opponents and wins with 1.27.5 ahead of the Norwegian Erlend Bjoentegaard (0-2-0-0) and 1.41.4 over the twenty-three-year-old Endre Stroemsheim (0-0- 1-1). The only 20/20 of the day for the Russian Said Karimulla Khalili (0-0-0-0) to reach the podium is not enough; stops in fourth place at 1.59.7 from Rastorgujevs. Another Norwegian, the third, in fifth position: this is the young Sivert Guttorm Bakken (0-1-0-1) who precedes the Ukrainian Pryma (1-2-0-0) by 7 seconds. The first of the Azzurri is Patrick Braunhofer (2-0-0-0), twenty-ninth at 4.37.8; Daniele Cappellari (1-0-0-1) is thirty-third at 5.04.4 and precedes his teammate Giuseppe Montello by 7 tenths (2-0-0-2) and by 6 seconds Saverio Zini (0-0-1- 3).
