The European Biathlon Championships have opened in the Polish town of Duszniki Zdroj, presenting the usual cast of young talents, old glories, second rows and protagonists of the World Cup circuit.

The first title at stake, the women's Individual, goes to a home biathlete, the thirty-year-old Monika Hojnisz (0-1-0-0) who, thanks to the best time on skis, wins with the small advantage of 2.9 seconds on the Ukrainian Merkushina (0-0-0-0), author of one of the four 20/20 of the day.
The Russian expert Larisa Kuklina (0-0-1-0) climbs on the third step of the podium and closes the race with a gap of 15.5 from the winner and precedes her compatriot Shevchenko (0-0-0-0) by 18 seconds . Fifth place is the prerogative of Ukrainian Petrenko (0-0-0-0) who, at 2.11.1, precedes the young Swedish Halvarsson (0-1-0-0) by just three seconds.
The best of the blue is the twenty year old Beatrice Trabucchi from Valle d'Aosta (1-0-0-0), forty-seventh at 5.45.0; Eleonora Fauner (0-1-2-1) is sixty-first. Rebecca Passler (2-2-1-1) 80th, Nicole Gontier (0-2-2-4) 83rd.
