With a long post on social media, the thirty-two-year-old native of Mutlangen announced the end of his racing career. He will thus consider himself one of the most successful German biathletes of all time.

After a very difficult start to the season, where he had only taken part in two races in Oberhof, however without significant results, and the failure to qualify for the Pokljuka World Championships, Simon Schempp announced today the end of his competitive career.
"20 years that we spent together, 20 years that taught me that commitment, will and passion pay off. Thanks to you dear biathlon I was able to achieve successes that will remain forever in my heart" - these are some of the words with which the German biathlete wanted to say goodbye to his fans and to the whole world of biathlon. He thanked all the people who have been close to him during his career, in particular the "Dogana Ski Team" and the "Deutshce Skiverband", adding that this decision was made following a physical decline that would no longer allow him to train. and compete satisfactorily.
Simon Schempp (born '88) made his World Cup debut on 11 March 2009 in Whistler Vancouver, immediately scoring the points with a 24th place. The first podium arrived in the same Canadian location, just four days after his debut in the World Cup, finishing 3rd. For the first victory he had to wait until 2014, when on January 17th the success in the sprint of Anterselva arrived on a par with our Lukas Hofer; Schempp also triumphed the next day in the pursuit. In his career he has won fourteen victories in the World Cup (two in the relays), as well as thirty other results between the second and third position, for a total of forty-four podiums.
Furthermore, in his palmarès there are three Olympic medals (silver in the relay race in Sochi in 2014 and in the mass start in Pyeonchang 2018, bronze in the relay race in Pyeonchang 2018) and eight world medals (gold in the mixed relays at Chanty-Mansijk 2010 and Hochfilzen 2017, in the relay at Kontiolahti 2015 and in the individual at Hochfilzen 2017; silver in the relay and in the mixed relay at Oslo Holmenkollen 2016; bronze in the relay at Ruhpolding 2012 and Nove Mesto 2013).
His last race was the Oberhof chase, which took place on January 9th, where he finished the test only in 45th place. Very good shooting athlete, especially on the ground, he will remain one of the most successful and elegant German biathletes of all time; a personality like him will miss a lot at the whole World Cup, who knows that one day we won't find him at the telescope as a coach ...
