Alexia Runggaldier has decided to say enough. The panorama of the blue biathlon thus loses an athlete who, no later than three years ago, surprisingly won the bronze medal in the Individual at the 2017 Hochfilzen World Championships, the highest point of his career for the winner of the Val Gardena a relay race in the World Cup and always in the same Austrian location, when Italy with Vittozzi, Wierer, Sanfilippo and Runggaldier managed to defeat Sweden.
After taking part in two editions of the Olympics, between Sochi and PyeongChang, Alexia said goodbye at the end of a year without participation in the CoM, but still topped with a couple of podiums in the Ibu Cup. “For me, the sport was a school of life - he wrote on social media announcing the farewell - asked me to grow up, look inside and overcome my weaknesses and fears. It made me feel emotions that I will carry forever in my heart and thanks to sport I have become the woman I am now.
Now, however, I have reached the limit of my sports and human resources to continue to give my best in this environment; for this reason I decided to leave the competitive sport, with serenity and the awareness of having given all I could give. Thanks to all the people who have helped me, from coaches, skimans and physiotherapists, to my teammates with whom we had fun living even less beautiful years, to the male companions for all the laughter and to the cross-country skiers of the Fiamme Oro headquarters team for friendship. And then the family, friends, federation and sponsors ".
Yesterday had been the day of the biathlon farewell, at 32 years old, by Dominik Landertinger: a reference for many years of the Austrian team, capable of obtaining five world medals (with gold in the mass start 2009 and another World Cup victory, in addition to the crystal ball in the mass) and four Olympic, with two silver and two bronze medals between Vancouver, Sochi and PyeongChang.
The last pearl with bronze in the Individual in Anterselva, in the World Cup that ended his career at best.
