Slovakian biathlon coach Juraj Sanitra started training with the Ukrainian men's biathlon team last week without Dmytro Pidruchny, still engaged in his home town of Ternopil in the national guard. A training session held in the city of Yavorov in the west of the country.
The tenacity of Sanitra, coach of the national team since 2016, highlights his idea of how sport can reinvigorate the morale of the country, especially in biathlon where the prestigious results have achieved a certain value: "Ukraine must show how much it is strong outside the military, and internationally it has always been capable. When the war broke out, he was in Slovakia and many colleagues from the Ukrainian national biathlon team turned to him to help their relatives save themselves. Hence, Sanitra decided not to leave her boys by returning to Ukraine to prepare the men's biathlon team for next season.
