The IBU changes the scoring system of the World Cup

Points and prize pools for CdM athletes increase. Clear cut to the accumulation of points during the Biathlon World Championships

Today IBU held a meeting scheduled in Salzburg, Austria in which the changes that will become effective starting from the next CdM were announced. In this specific case, the press release says the following: - The points of the World Championships will not be counted towards the CdM, so the Biathlon World Championships will become an event in its own right. - For the general classification there will be no more discards. - The points awarded per discipline will be higher for the first six classified than the previous count to encourage athletes to fight for the CdM if they lose one or more CdM stages due to illness. -The prize pool of the IBU World Cup and Ibu Cup will be extended until the 2024 season, and then it will be increased again for the following two years based on the results obtained. In addition, IBU has received nominations from Otepaa (Estonia) and Kontiolahti (Finland) for the 2027 World Cup and will travel to the locations by the end of the month to subsequently make a final decision on the most suitable nomination.
