The mission of Bjoerndalen and Domracheva with the Chinese biathlon team is wrecked

A little more than a month before the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games, the Norwegian champion admits: "We have to be realistic, there is only a small chance because we are the only ones to know the competition site, but we were unable to change the way athletes think ".

The Chinese mission of the Bjoerndalen has failed. The two famous biathlon champions, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and Darya Domracheva, had moved to China in the spring of 2019 with the clear attempt to form a team of biathletes capable of being competitive in the upcoming home winter Olympics. Nowadays, however, the same cannot be said anymore. The goal of a medal appears very far away: “We are experiencing a difficult time and we must be realistic. The small chance we have is linked to the fact that we are the only ones who know the track; if the Olympics took place elsewhere, we would be hopeless, ”admitted Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. The two great ex of biathlon have set in motion a solid program, useful for the growth of athletes to push them towards a common goal. The problem, however, lies in the mentality: according to the Norwegian champion, for the Chinese biathlon is just a job and they do not appreciate the possibility of practicing this sport with a lot of passion. “They work hard and train to be the best in the country because they get bonuses, but they're only in their 20s. Unfortunately we have not been able to change their way of thinking, ”said Bjoerndalen. Two champions with enviable palmares, with a shipwrecked mission to be accomplished, or nearly so, a few weeks before the Olympics.
