Pavlova and Eliseev triumph in the World Team Challenge in Ruhpolding, Wierer and Hofer quarters

The Russian couple won the traditional post-Christmas event, which moved from the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen to the Ruhpolding biathlon stadium for the occasion. Good performance for the Italian couple who finished in 4th place.

The first part of the race (starting in line) saw the Russian couple Pavlova-Eliseev prevail, who with only three penalty laps preceded the Germans Preuss-Schempp (Germany 2) by 18 ”and the Austrians Hauser-Eberhard by 50”. Wierer and Hofer finished in fourth position, excellent in the background but too foul in shooting (nine errors in total). The blues paid 1’09 "from the head. In the Pursuit, the couples then left with halved gaps and everything was then called into question. Russia and Germany 2 were in the lead, with Italy, Austria and Germany 1 (Herrmann-Doll) chasing. In front the Russians were impeccable in shooting and arrived at the last shooting range with a margin error on the Azzurri, able in the second part of the race to significantly raise the percentages from the pitch. In the decisive moment, however, Eliseev made a mistake, leaving room for comebacks. However, no one was able to take advantage of it. Behind Hofer made two mistakes and lost his position to Schempp, second in the end. The fight for the lowest step of the podium was instead resolved in the sprint, with Doll preceding Hofer on the wire. The Azzurri therefore had to sit at the foot of the podium.
