Slettemark, the biathlon dynasty continues. Greenland returns to the Olympic Games thanks to Ukaleq

Twelve years after dad Øystein, the young biathlete from Nuuk (Greenland) will be at the Olympic Games. Ukaleq Astri Slettemark has in fact been convened in Beijing 2022, where it will represent the flag of Denmark.

Greenland, an island located between the Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean of just under 60,000 inhabitants, will also be in Beijing 2022. Obviously under the flag of Denmark, since Kalaallit Nunaat (lit. "land of men" in Greenlandic) it is an autonomous Danish territory, not recognized by the IOC. A 21-year-old from Nuuk represented her: Ukaleq Astri Slettermark. Daughter of art from the world of biathlon: both mom Uiloq and dad Øystein are former biathletes and have passed on their passion to their children. Even the "little ones" Sondre (born in 2004) and Inuk (born in 2006) already hang out on the Ibu Junior Cup circuit. Twelve years after Øystein, who took part in the Vancouver Olympic Games competing in the Individual and Sprint, the Slettemark dynasty will continue in Beijing 2022. Ukaleq has in fact been called up by Denmark and will be among the 62 "Danes" leaving for China: "It is absolutely fantastic to be selected for the Winter Olympics," he commented in a statement published by DIF. This is the greatest thing I can achieve sportingly, because the Olympics are only held every four years, so I don't have much chance in my career. For the Olympics, everyone is on top. Everyone is looking forward to the Olympics and everyone tries to be in the best shape of their career. The level is very high and suddenly everyone is interested in winter sports and biathlon. That's why the Olympics are the greatest sporting event ". The target? To beat dad, who at Whistler Mountain was 88th in the 20km and 86th in the Sprint. On paper Ukaleq should have something more in his legs and the dream could be the qualification for the Pursuit. The 2001 class of Nuuk rose to prominence in 2019, thanks to the victory in the individual Youth of the Brezno-Osrblie World Cup in 2019. From that moment a long course in Ibu Cup, up to the debut in the World Cup last year in Hochfilzen and participation in the Pokljuka World Championships, where he took a 65th place in the 15 km.
