A double appointment in Oberhof, one of the cradles of the movement, for the fifth and sixth stages of the 2020/21 World Cup. Everything is now ready for the three days that marks the resumption after the close of 2020 in Hochfilzen, just as the calls to Italy for the races in Germany are official: it will start on Friday 8 January with the sprints, followed on Saturday 9 from the pursuit and Sunday 10 from the two relays.
After a few days of rest, it will resume in the same location with a new male sprint on Wednesday 13, the female one on Thursday 14 and the relay races on Friday 15 (men) and Saturday 16 (women), before the grand finale with the mass start on Sunday 17 January. . The technical director Fabrizio Curtaz will bring only three girls to Oberhof, namely Irene Lardschneider, Lisa Vittozzi (who triumphed here in 2019 with a historic double) and Dorothea Wierer, the best in the overall standings with 6th place and the dream of a trio in the general which will pass from a recovery partly begun in the last Austrian stage.
There is the good news of the return to the race of Tommaso Giacomel, hit by Covid in November and out in the first four events of CdM, in the men's team that will also count on Thomas Bormolini, Didier Bionaz, Dominik Windisch and Lukas Hofer, fresh from World Team Challenge disputed (and finished in 4th place) with Dorothea Wierer.
On the other hand, the Alpen Cup opens in Formi Avoltri, the youth festival reserved for the six countries of the Alpine arc that make up the OPA area, namely Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and France. The blue team will be represented by Nicolò Betemps, Fabio Piller Cottrer, Marco Barale, Mattia Piller Hoffer, Thomas Daziano, Leonardo Mosquet, Stefan Navillod, Felix Ratschiller, Nicolas Ribbi, Christoph Pircher, Hannah Auchentaller, Beatrice Trabucchi, Rebecca Passler, Linda Zingerle, Martina Trabucchi, Sara Scattolo, Laura Sciarpa, Samuela Comola, Eleonora Fauner, Michela Carrara, Federica Sanfilippo and Nicole Gontier.
With the group there will be the technicians Mirco Romanin, Fabio Cianciana and Alexander Inderst. The program includes individual races on Saturday 9th, followed by sprints on Sunday 10th January.
