Oberhof has the look for the World Cup in 2023

Large investments are planned for the modernization of the Oberhof biathlon stadium, which in 2023 will host the world championships for the second time in its history.

Less than two weeks after the awarding of the world championship, the Thuringia locality has announced important investments that will involve the biathlon stadium. On 9 September, during the IBU Congress in Porec (Cro), Oberhof had won the two-man race with Nove Mesto (Cze) to host the biathlon world championships in 2023. On Thursday, the local authorities, represented by Obermut Schubert (SPD), presented a € 24.5 million restructuring plan to bring the Thuringian plant to the current standards required by the IBU, since the latest interventions go back to the years before the 2004, when Oberhof hosted the biathlon world championships for the first time. The project includes new buildings to house the representatives of the IBU and the timekeepers and the expansion of the stands. An intervention on the race tracks is also planned.
